'Uneven Breasts' Padded on Only One Side… Balancing with Stem Cell Plastic Surgery

Surprisingly, quite a few women suffer from stress due to so-called "uneven breasts," where the size of both breasts differs. Since body parts are not perfectly symmetrical, some difference in breast size is considered normal. However, those with a noticeable difference are at high risk of experiencing such distress. People with significantly different breast shapes often take corrective measures, such as adding a pad to the slightly smaller side, to make the asymmetry less noticeable.

Severe breast asymmetry can be caused by congenital factors such as thoracic imbalance, scoliosis, or pelvic imbalance, but it usually develops due to acquired habits. In very few cases, the exact cause can be medically identified.

Among the secondary sexual characteristics of women, breast growth begins in the early teens and concludes before the age of 20. During this maturation process, pathological, genetic, or various other unknown causes can lead to underdeveloped or uneven breasts, resulting in asymmetrical breasts. Additionally, poor lifestyle habits, exercise methods, dieting, and changes after childbirth can also cause breasts to become uneven. Experts advise that caution is necessary during the growth period when breast development begins, as nutritional imbalances and poor posture can cause breasts to form differently or become deformed. If breast asymmetry has already formed, it is difficult to correct it on one's own.

Dr. Shin Dong-jin, Director of SC301 Clinic, emphasized, “Incorrect posture, unbalanced eating habits, and wearing ill-fitting underwear during the growth period can lead to uneven development of muscle and fat distribution on both sides of the chest, causing asymmetrical breasts,” adding, “Correcting bad lifestyle habits should be the priority during this period.”

Individuals who remain self-conscious about having uneven breasts even into adulthood may consider corrective treatment. Among these options, 'stem cell breast augmentation' is highly preferred. This procedure involves harvesting pure fat from areas with excess fat, such as the thighs or abdomen, mixing it with stem cells in an appropriate ratio, and transplanting it into the breasts to shape the body. It is safe as it uses the patient's own fat instead of implants.

While it varies from person to person, approximately 1000 cc of fat can be extracted based on an average body type. Typically, the amount of fat transplanted to one breast is about 200 to 250 cc, similar to the size of commonly used implants. However, simply injecting fat can lead to issues with engraftment rates, where the transplanted fat is absorbed by the tissue, resulting in a reduced residual volume. To address this, adult stem cells are utilized.

Director Shin Dong-jin explained, “If adipose-derived adult stem cells contained in fat tissue extracted from the patient’s abdomen are injected into fat grafting surgery, the engraftment rate can be increased through the stem cells’ immunosuppressive response, resulting anti-inflammatory effects, differentiation into fat cells, and induction of angiogenesis.” He added, “To achieve proper results from stem cell breast augmentation, approximately 5000 million or more stem cells must be administered in a single procedure, a figure that can be verified using a cell counting device.”
