[Column] Stem Cell Breast Augmentation: If You Are Considering It Someday, 'Take Liposuction Slowly'

Since I first introduced stem cell breast augmentation in Korea in 2007, many hospitals have been joining the trend one after another. As competition intensifies, some places are lowering prices, and some hospitals claim to have a technical advantage, stating that they can complete stem cell breast augmentation, which typically takes 3 to 4 hours, within an hour.

If patients could complete stem cell breast augmentation faster at a lower price, nothing could be better. However, the fact that stem cell extraction can be completed in just 30 minutes, or that a large amount of liposuction can be performed in a short time using automated equipment, is a cause for concern.

From the perspective of liposuction itself, the ability to remove a large volume of fat in a short period of time is certainly appealing. However, stem cell breast augmentation is a fat grafting procedure that involves injecting a large quantity of high-quality fat cells and adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) obtained from extracted fat tissue. Yet, if a large volume of fat tissue is extracted in a short time using automated equipment, questions arise as to whether high-quality fat cells and stem cells can actually be secured.

The more intensely a 'cannula,' a thin tube used for liposuction, is inserted into the body and stirred, and the faster the fat is sucked out in an instant, the greater the amount of damaged fat cells and stem cells becomes, making it difficult to secure high-quality transplant tissue.

This is the reason why liposuction is performed manually with extreme precision on specific areas, even if it takes a long time and relies solely on arm strength and manual technique. This surgical method is based on the judgment that using a machine to suction out hundreds to thousands of cc of fat tissue in a short period cannot prevent a certain degree of damage to fat cells and adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs).

In order to minimize the amount of broken and damaged cells and achieve high-efficiency stem cell breast augmentation, liposuction must be performed manually rather than automatically, and for as long as possible rather than in a short time, relying on the surgeon's know-how.

The same applies to the stem cell extraction and purification process. When advertising rapid stem cell extraction, many facilities typically use mechanical extraction equipment to physically separate stem cells from fat cells. However, to minimize physical damage to stem cells and ensure proper extraction, the best current solution is to use biochemical methods with organic enzymes, even if it takes a little longer.

The engraftment rate of fat cells in stem cell breast augmentation is known to be around 76% on average. This represents an efficiency up to seven times higher than the 10–20% engraftment rate of general fat grafting, but this efficiency is, of course, only possible under the premise that there are no broken or damaged cells.

No matter how much damaged or dead stem cells or fat cells are injected into the breasts, they will only be absorbed into the body or cause surgical side effects such as necrosis and calcification. Therefore, rather than compromising on price and speed, stem cell breast augmentation should be performed properly the first time, even if it costs more time and money.

Therefore, if you desire successful stem cell breast augmentation, it is best to entrust your body to medical professionals who are verified by their genuine skills, specialized equipment, know-how, and numerous clinical cases accumulated over many years, rather than focusing on price or speed. It is also essential to verify whether they possess specialized equipment, such as high-efficiency stem cell extraction and purification devices and cell counters.
