[Column] If Breast Aging and Sagging Are Too Severe, Consider Stem Cell Breast Augmentation

Many women worry as they watch their breasts sag over time, even though they were certainly full of firmness and vitality in their youth. While slight sagging may not be a concern, if the condition becomes severe, many women end up living with it in resignation, as it eventually becomes difficult to conceal even with bras or shapewear.

Medically, this condition is referred to as breast ptosis. Breast ptosis refers to a state where the nipple descends below the center of the chest.

Breast ptosis can be broadly divided into three stages. Mild breast ptosis refers to cases where the nipple is located at the breast crease or has dropped about 1 cm below it; moderate breast ptosis refers to cases where the nipple is about 2 cm below the breast crease but is located above the lowest breast tissue; and severe breast ptosis refers to cases where the nipple is 3 cm or more below the breast crease and is pointing downward.

Breast ptosis is generally known to occur naturally with physical aging. However, the causes are more diverse than one might think. It frequently occurs when the skin sags due to the weight of breasts that are excessively large, when the upper breast lacks volume to support the breasts, when skin elasticity decreases due to rapid weight loss, or due to childbirth and breastfeeding.

Mild breast ptosis can be improved to some extent through exercise. However, complete improvement is difficult, and in most cases, surgical correction is required. If the sagging is not severe, implants, stem cells, or autologous fat are inserted into the upper breast to fill in the loose skin. If the sagging is too severe, correction must be performed through breast augmentation or reduction surgery, depending on the amount of breast volume.

The important point is that damage to breast tissue is inevitable regardless of the surgical method chosen. Scarring occurs around the chest, and tissue damage, such as mammary glands or nerves within the breast, may also occur. To minimize this and stably fix breast ptosis, it is recommended to undergo surgery using autologous fat grafting rather than implants, specifically the stem cell breast augmentation method.

Choosing stem cell breast augmentation allows for the correction of breast ptosis with a naturalness incomparable to that of implants. Furthermore, it is efficient and safe, increasing the fat tissue survival rate from the low 10–20% level of simple fat grafting to an average of 70%. Stem cells contribute to the formation of blood vessels and tissue regeneration within the body, and secrete various growth factors to promote the activation of existing somatic cells. This can induce rapid recovery from bodily damage that may occur during corrective surgery.

If you wish to undergo stem cell breast augmentation to correct breast ptosis, you must be careful when selecting a hospital. Unverified procedures, substandard equipment, or a lack of technical expertise can lead to side effects or accidents. Therefore, it is advisable to decide whether to proceed with the surgery only after confirming that the hospital is staffed with medical professionals possessing extensive experience and know-how, and that it is equipped with specialized equipment for breast ptosis correction and stem cell breast augmentation.
