Will wearing a shapewear bra solve all sagging breasts?

Ms. Yoon (28, female), who works at a PR company, feels her breasts sagging as time goes by. When she was young, her firm breasts were one of her sources of pride. However, at some point, she began to feel her breasts sagging downwards, and she became afraid that aging had begun. Even after trying to manage them with yoga and swimming, her cleavage did not form properly, so she purchased a shaping bra and wears it every day. Recently, the shaping bra has been feeling increasingly constricting, and she is debating whether or not to continue wearing it.

One of the parts of a woman's body that ages surprisingly quickly is the breasts. Dr. Shin Dong-jin, director of SC301 Clinic, stated, "The breasts are composed of fat and mammary glands, supported by Cooper's ligaments. As women enter their late 20s, the collagen cells and fat that make up these ligaments decrease, causing the skin tissue to lose elasticity, leading to sagging breasts and a tendency for the skin to become rough."

What is the standard for beautiful breasts that do not sag? Director Shin explained, “Ideally, the line connecting the center of the clavicle to the nipple forms an equilateral triangle when viewed from the front, and the top of the bust is positioned midway between the shoulder and the elbow when viewed from the side,” adding, “The pectoralis major muscle is what supports this position.” He further added, “Asian women have weaker pectoralis major muscles compared to Westerners, so their breasts tend to spread toward the sides, making it difficult for cleavage to form.”

Since breasts are mostly fat, using shapewear to continuously compress and shape them helps to stabilize them to a certain extent. However, even if the shape is forcibly formed, this should be avoided to maintain firm, healthy breasts.

Wearing a bra for extended periods hinders blood and lymphatic circulation in the breasts. It can also cause indigestion, which is detrimental to breast health. It is advisable not to wear a bra while sleeping. Remove your bra on holidays or while sleeping; when wearing one, adjust it so that there is enough room for one finger between your shoulder and the strap, and it is best to avoid padded bras.

Those who desire firm breasts without the need for a compression bra can consider surgical methods. Recently, 'stem cell breast augmentation' has been gaining popularity, rivaling that of breast implant surgery. This is a kind of 'upgraded version' that complements the existing simple autologous fat grafting technique.

Simple fat grafting is safe as it uses the patient's own fat without causing foreign body sensations or rejection reactions, but its disadvantage is that most of the transplanted fat cells are absorbed into the body. In contrast, stem cell breast augmentation addresses this drawback. It is similar in that it utilizes adipose tissue harvested from areas where unwanted fat has accumulated, such as the thighs or abdomen. However, by transplanting stem cells extracted from the adipose tissue along with the fat cells into areas like the breasts, the survival and engraftment rates of the fat cells can be significantly increased.

While individual differences exist, approximately 1000 cc of fat can be extracted based on an average body type. Typically, the amount of fat transplanted to one breast is about 200 to 250 cc, similar to the size of commonly used implants. The ideal bust circumference is considered to be the waist size plus 20 to 25 cm, or about 5 to 10 cm smaller than the hip circumference.

Director Shin Dong-jin emphasized, “The idea that bigger breasts are always better is a misconception,” adding, “Finding the right volume for your body type is the first condition for beautiful breasts.”

He continued, “The reason stem cell breast augmentation looks more natural than autologous fat grafting is that it uses your own stem cells,” adding, “Just like inflating a balloon, injecting stem cells and fat cells together fills the volume while maintaining your original breast shape.”

SC301 Clinic is enhancing the safety and reliability of its procedures by publishing an international paper, the first in Korea to prove a high fat engraftment rate of over 70% driven by the effects of stem cells. Director Shin emphasized, “To achieve proper stem cell breast augmentation results, approximately 1 million or more stem cells must be administered in a single procedure, a figure that can be verified using a cell counting device.”
