Stem Cell Breast Augmentation: Volume Enhancement as a Basic, Plus Safe Breast Reconstruction

No woman would turn down a single surgery that could increase her bust circumference by 5 cm and eliminate excess fat. Breast volume is innate, and for women whose growth typically stops after puberty, resulting in smaller breasts, it is bound to be a lifelong source of anxiety. While many women dream of full breasts, Korean women, due to the characteristics of the East Asian race, tend to have smaller rib cages and relatively less volume. Because a slim figure is considered the norm, women often become so engrossed in dieting that their breasts end up looking even more underdeveloped.

Amidst a social atmosphere where people believe it is better to "gain confidence through surgery rather than worrying about appearance complexes," a significant number of women are deciding to undergo breast augmentation. While facial and eye surgery was the mainstream trend in the past, the demand for breast surgery has risen as the focus shifts toward body contouring. Recently, there has been a trend toward preferring autologous fat grafting, which is safer than artificial implants. However, due to the low survival rate of engrafted fat cells, there is a growing trend of turning to "stem cell breast augmentation," which combines fat grafting with stem cells. This is because many people find the "artificial breast" shape characteristic of implants burdensome.

"Stem cells," a hot keyword in the medical market, enhance therapeutic effects through immunosuppressive responses, resulting anti-inflammatory effects, the ability to differentiate into fat, chondrocyte, bone, and muscle cells, the induction of angiogenesis, and rapid recovery. When applied to the field of fat grafting, this can raise the engraftment rate of fat cells in the transplanted area to over 70%, leading to high patient satisfaction. Stem cell breast augmentation is similar in procedure to conventional simple autologous fat grafting, but it differs in the "decisive point" of the presence or absence of stem cells. The process is the same up to the stage of harvesting fat cells from the patient's body. Stem cells are separated from the harvested fat, mixed with the fat tissue in a specific ratio, and injected into the breasts. Due to the action of stem cells, the engraftment rate is 2 to 3 times higher than the 20–30% range of conventional fat grafting, eliminating the need for retouches (supplementary procedures after the initial treatment), making it less cumbersome.

Dr. Shin Dong-jin, Director of SC301 Clinic, is considered a pioneer in the field of cosmetic procedures utilizing stem cells. Since 2008, he has dedicated himself entirely to stem cell breast augmentation, consistently presenting research results. A study conducted by Dr. Shin on 200 female patients who underwent breast augmentation using adipose-derived stem cells between December 2008 and November 2012 showed that chest circumference increased by an average of 5.25 cm two weeks after the procedure and 5.71 cm one month later. A strong correlation was observed between the increase in chest circumference six months after the procedure and the content of Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 (FGF-2) contained in the adipose stem cells. He enhanced the credibility of the procedure by publishing these research findings in a research paper published by Shandong University Medical School in China.

In any field, "me too" products that imitate popular originals are bound to emerge. The same is true for stem cell breast augmentation. There are quite a few clinics that advertise performing the procedure without having properly researched it. If problems arise from a sloppy procedure, it is ultimately the patient who suffers. The decisive factor distinguishing the original from the counterfeit is the "number of stem cells injected." Director Shin Dong-jin emphasizes, "To increase the engraftment rate of stem cell breast augmentation, at least 5000 million cells of adipose-derived adult stem cells must be administered." SC301 Clinic is equipped with a "cell counting device" that allows for direct verification of the injected cell count, enabling the precise determination of the number of injected cells after surgery.
