Tissue-regenerating stem cells “effective for treating burn scars”

It is known that utilizing stem cells, which have tissue regenerative effects, can provide certain benefits in treating burn scars. This is because stem cells regenerate cells damaged by burns and secrete various growth factors to aid in the activation and healing of somatic cells.

Shin Dong-jin, the representative director of SC301 Clinic and known as a leading authority on stem cells in Korea, appeared on TV Chosun’s “Good Morning Information World” aired on the 21st and mentioned that scar treatment using stem cells is recently emerging as an effective method for treating burn scars.
Director Shin stated, “The goal of scar treatment is not to eliminate scars, but merely to make them less visible,” adding, “Recently, stem cell scar treatment is emerging as an effective method. This involves directly injecting stem cells extracted from the patient’s own fat into the scar area to aid in the recovery of damaged tissue and normalize scar tissue through the tissue regeneration functions of the stem cells.”
Stem cells refer to 'undifferentiated cells' existing within the human body. The majority exist in the form of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) within adipose tissue, while trace amounts are also present in bone marrow and blood.
Stem cells are known to maintain the body's homeostasis by replacing existing somatic cells that are damaged, aged, or have died with new cells, and by secreting growth factors to induce the healing and activation of existing somatic cells.
The explanation is that the tissue regeneration effects of such stem cells contribute to the fundamental treatment of burn scars. Director Shin also mentioned, "In addition to scar improvement, the tissue regeneration function of stem cells also leads to an improvement in skin tone in the treated area."
The treatment involves extracting and purifying adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) found in excess fat on areas such as the abdomen or thighs via liposuction, and then injecting them directly into the scarred area. Therefore, it is explained that this provides a dual benefit of treating scars while removing fat.
It is known that stem cells can be injected immediately after extraction, or stored in cryogenic cell banking equipment at -197°C and thawed for use when needed.
