Proper Stem Cell Plastic Surgery… 'Anti-aging' for Body and Skin

A recently emerging hot keyword in the anti-aging market is 'stem cell cosmetic surgery'.

Stem cell cosmetic treatments cover a wide range of areas, including breast augmentation, anti-aging procedures, stem cell culture fluid skin therapy, buttock lifts, and procedures to fill in uneven areas after liposuction. As plastic surgery trends shift toward 'safety' and 'naturalness,' stem cell surgery is emerging as a procedure in which a patient's own excess fat and stem cells are injected into necessary areas instead of implanting implants during breast augmentation or facial volume enhancement.

Among cosmetic procedures utilizing stem cells, fat grafting stands out by far. The limitation of conventional simple autologous fat grafting is that the fat survival rate is only 10–30%, raising concerns that the volume will disappear rapidly shortly after the procedure. Additionally, caution is required as fat that fails to engraft can cause side effects such as calcification. Stem cell surgery has improved upon these shortcomings of conventional fat grafting.

Stem cells are used in the treatment of various diseases due to their ability to enhance therapeutic effects through the secretion of growth factors and resulting anti-inflammatory properties, differentiation into fat, chondrocyte, bone, and muscle cells, induction of angiogenesis, and rapid recovery. Dr. Shin Dong-jin, Director of SC301 Clinic, introduced the procedure, stating, “Stem cell fat grafting involves isolating stem cells from a portion of centrifuged fat, mixing them with the fat, and transplanting them to the necessary areas.” He added, “Stem cells not only possess the ability to maintain volume but also offer the potential for treating fine wrinkles and melasma.” Since the use of stem cells significantly increases the fat engraftment rate, and the patient's own tissue is utilized, natural-looking cosmetic results can be expected. Because it eliminates side effects such as unnaturalness or capsular contracture that can occur with implant surgery, it is becoming a preferred option not only among the younger generation but also among those in their 40s to 60s.

As stem cell cosmetic surgery gains popularity, caution is advised as the number of clinics promoting "stem cell surgery in name only" is increasing. Literally, they advertise that they are performing stem cell surgery while actually only conducting simple fat grafting. Although they employ a "me-too" strategy, since it is a medical procedure, receiving treatment at a place that merely mimics the technology could lead to disappointment and side effects. Above all, you should avoid clinics that unconditionally emphasize the ability to "increase volume" without accurately assessing the patient's condition. There are even places that persuade patients with conditions that prevent immediate surgery to undergo the procedure right away by claiming that "the results will be excellent." One of the critical factors determining the outcome of stem cell surgery is the surgeon's clinical experience. This is because they must encounter a wide variety of cases to elicit the best possible results. SC301 Clinic accurately assesses the patient's condition and needs before surgery, then conducts pre-operative care—a kind of warm-up—to help patients achieve their desired results. Subsequently, they provide personalized one-on-one treatment and help patients achieve perfect lines through patented post-operative care.

Director Shin Dong-jin advanced a breast augmentation technique this year that fully utilizes the effects of stem cells, raising the engraftment rate of transplanted fat cells to over 76%, a feat proven through a research paper. He also released the results of an analysis of stem cell breast augmentation outcomes for 200 patients aged 20 to 50 who were available for follow-up observation over a one-year period in 2013. Regardless of age, breast circumference increased by an average of approximately 5 cm, and the women receiving the procedure were injected with over 90 cc of fat cells and stem cells per breast, with a maximum of 260 cc. Furthermore, to ensure successful results, it is necessary to verify the equipment the hospital possesses. State-of-the-art fat grafting equipment used in stem cell fat grafting, such as TGI, HuriCell, and MultiStation, fundamentally prevents side effects like calcification or unevenness and maximizes surgical efficacy. However, one must be cautious, as many hospitals claiming to perform stem cell surgery emphasize having state-of-the-art facilities, yet actually lack the equipment to extract stem cells. In particular, the key to the success of the procedure is 'how much stem cell is injected.' The 'cell counter' is what verifies this.

Director Shin emphasized, “When deciding to undergo the procedure and heading out for a consultation, if you have even the slightest doubt about a particular hospital, you must unconditionally visit and compare multiple clinics to find a place where you can be 100% satisfied in order to achieve satisfactory surgical results.” He added, “Proper stem cell cosmetic surgery offers three benefits in one: it enhances breast volume to improve body lines, and allows you to take care of your health while managing high-quality fat.” SC301 Clinic has been developing stem cell breast augmentation since 2007. He is a pioneer in introducing the use of stem cells for breast and facial surgery for the first time in a field of cosmetic surgery that had previously relied solely on artificial implants. As the President of the Korean Society of Stem Cell Cosmetic Surgery, he currently possesses experience in over 3000 stem cell cosmetic surgeries. Furthermore, as the President of the Korean Society of Stem Cell Cosmetic Surgery, he holds annual seminars to pass on his know-how to other doctors. The clinic has enhanced its credibility by winning the '2014 Minister of Health and Welfare Award' and the '2015 Commissioner of the Korea Food and Drug Administration Award.'
