You must check if proper equipment is being used for autologous fat stem cell breast augmentation.

As naturalness and safety emerge as keywords in plastic surgery, there is a growing trend to prefer autologous fat grafting over breast augmentation with implants. Recently, "stem cell breast augmentation," which involves injecting adult stem cells derived from fat into the breasts along with the fat, has become incredibly popular. Due to growth factors, stem cells have raised the engraftment rate—a limitation of conventional simple fat grafting, from the low 20–30% to the 70% range.

Director Shin Dong-jin of SC301 Clinic assessed, “Currently, there are hundreds of hospitals in Korea advertising that they perform stem cell breast augmentation, but there are only about 10 medical institutions that are properly equipped with devices to extract stem cells and perform the procedure meticulously.”

It is all too common for clinics to claim to use a specific stem cell extractor but fail to actually utilize it. If a clinic advertises the use of such equipment while offering a significantly lower price, you must verify whether the equipment is actually in operation. If proper equipment is not being used, patients may end up suffering a loss after undergoing a procedure they believed was stem cell fat grafting, only to find out later that the system is no different from an autologous fat grafting surgery.

Autologous fat grafting is safer than implant surgery because it utilizes the patient's own fat, eliminating the foreign body sensation or rejection reaction; however, a drawback is that most of the transplanted fat cells are absorbed into the body. In contrast, stem cell breast augmentation addresses this disadvantage. While it utilizes fat tissue harvested from areas where unwanted fat has accumulated, such as the thighs or abdomen, transplanting stem cells extracted from that fat tissue along with the fat cells into the breasts can significantly increase the survival and engraftment rates of the fat cells.

Director Shin Dong-jin explained, “If fat cells are simply transplanted, they are absorbed and lost to the original breast tissue after a short time. To overcome this, stem cells must be extracted from the fat tissue, mixed with purified fat cells in a specific ratio, and then injected into the breasts.”

While it varies from person to person, approximately 1000 cc of fat can be extracted based on an average body type. Typically, the amount of fat transplanted to one breast is about 200 to 250 cc, similar to the size of commonly used implants. Director Shin stated, "Stem cell breast augmentation looks more natural than autologous fat grafting because it involves the patient's own stem cells," adding, "Just like inflating a balloon, injecting stem cells and fat cells together fills the breasts with volume while maintaining their original shape."
