[Edaily] The know-how to maintain a youthful face created by fat grafting for a long time: 'Stem cells'

[Edaily Reporter Lee Soon-yong] No matter how beautiful being thin may be, the face is an exception. Since a youthful appearance has become a standard for beauty, a slender jawline combined with an overall facial volume that looks pleasing has been considered the ideal look. While a thick jawline can make one appear dull, plump cheeks and a full forehead give off a lovely impression.

In fact, sunken cheeks, deep under-eyes, nasolabial folds, and a sunken forehead are representative factors that make one look older. People who look irritable due to too little facial fat, those who have lost facial weight excessively due to rapid dieting, those who have developed a complex about their face looking longer because of sunken cheeks, or those with facial imbalances due to a receding chin can also expect good results.

The problem is that even if you try to force yourself to gain weight to add volume to your face, the fat does not go to the areas you want, so you could end up ruining your figure for no reason. Firming creams or functional cosmetics only provide moisture and do not actually add volume.

The appropriate procedure for this is 'autologous fat grafting.' Fat grafting involves delicately transplanting pure fat extracted from areas such as the abdomen or thighs to create a firm and smooth facial contour. It is highly satisfying as it goes beyond simply filling in areas lacking volume; it balances the overall facial appearance and discreetly corrects imperfections.

Since the primary ingredient is fat cells from the excess fat often considered a source of insecurity, body contouring effects can also be expected. Another advantage is that there is no need to incise the skin, and scars are barely noticeable. However, with conventional fat grafting, repeated procedures were unavoidable because the fat cells were absorbed back into the body after a certain period. A disadvantage is that the survival rate of simple autologous fat grafting is relatively low, ranging from 20% to 30%, meaning the transplanted fat disappears quickly. It is not uncommon for women to grumble, saying that once the fat has settled in, their "pretty appearance lasted only a little over three months."

'Stem cell fat grafting' is an improvement on this. It is the same as general fat grafting up to the point of harvesting unnecessary fat from areas such as the thighs or abdomen. However, it differs in that only stem cells, which have excellent capabilities for cell regeneration, division, and differentiation, are separately extracted and mixed with purified fat.

Transplanting adult stem cells extracted from the patient's own fat along with pure fat cells to the face results in a significantly higher survival rate compared to conventional fat grafting. Shin Dong-jin, Representative Director of SC301 Clinic, explained, "Stem cell anti-aging surgery minimizes fat loss, allowing patients to expect satisfactory results without side effects in a single procedure." He added, "The key is enhancing the survival rate and volume of fat cells by adding a pure stem cell injection process to the existing simple fat grafting procedure." He further introduced the procedure, stating, "Due to the nature of stem cells, sufficient effects can be achieved with just a single treatment, eliminating the hassle of retouching, and it is free from side effects such as necrosis that occur when an excessive amount of fat is injected."

Director Shin has been researching stem cell cosmetic surgery since 2007. He has also proven through academic papers that the use of stem cells increases the engraftment rate. He raised the credibility of the procedure by revealing that administering stem cells along with fat grafting increases the post-procedure engraftment rate to 76%.

Immediately after stem cell anti-aging surgery, your face may swell and bruise slightly. This is a natural part of the recovery process, and significant swelling will subside after about a week. If autologous fat grafting was performed when skin elasticity was significantly reduced, the skin may sag after a few months, so it is advantageous to combine it with a separate lifting procedure to restore skin elasticity.
