[Medical News] Stem Cell Breast Augmentation is Different from Simple Fat Grafting!

Sincere doctors are being branded as unethical due to some private clinics engaging in so-called fake medical practices, specifically stem cell breast augmentation procedures that are merely a facade.

As side effects of breast augmentation using implants have come to the forefront in the media, interest in stem cell breast augmentation—which involves extracting stem cells from the patient's own fat tissue—is rising; however, due to some private clinics lacking the necessary expertise and equipment, all doctors performing stem cell breast augmentation are being treated as unethical.

Dr. Shin Dong-jin, director of SC301 Clinic, who has performed over 4500 stem cell breast augmentations since 2008, expressed his regret, stating, “As cases of side effects continue to emerge due to doctors in some private clinics who perform stem cell breast augmentations in name only, it seems as though all doctors performing stem cell breast augmentations are being unfairly blamed.”

Stem cell breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that utilizes the patient's own fat cells and stem cells, making it a safe method with virtually no side effects.

In particular, stem cell breast augmentation is an advanced procedure that overcomes the disadvantage of excessive fat cell absorption found in conventional fat grafting. It involves extracting stem cells from adipose tissue harvested from areas of the body where unwanted fat has accumulated and transplanting them along with the fat cells, thereby significantly increasing the survival rate of the transplanted fat.

Director Shin Dong-jin explained, “Stem cell breast augmentation requires specialized equipment to ensure the cells extracted from fat are not damaged, as well as the extensive clinical experience of the medical staff performing the procedure.”

Along with this, he added, “Good results can only be achieved by thoroughly examining the patient’s breast condition, fat quality, and lifestyle habits beforehand,” and “Expert advice is also necessary to ensure sufficient nutritional intake through dietary habits so that the transplanted fat can settle properly after the procedure.”

However, as the number of cases where breast augmentation using PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) or general autologous fat grafting is mistaken for breast augmentation using stem cells increases, doctors who perform procedures using stem cells are suffering losses.

Director Shin Dong-jin dismissed the claim, stating, “While PRP procedures can show some effects regarding tissue regeneration, they differ from differentiation and proliferation treatments that increase the survival rate of cells,” and added, “Although PRP fat grafting has a higher survival rate than general fat grafting, the actual effect may be minimal.”

In addition, there are frequently patients who receive the procedure after confusing it with general autologous fat grafting and stem cell fat grafting, believing it to be a different procedure.

While conventional autologous fat grafting shows a low survival rate of 20% or less, stem cell fat grafting can confirm an average survival rate of 70%.

Furthermore, stem cell fat grafting is exceptionally safe due to the almost non-existent risk of calcification and necrosis, resulting in low side effects and a high engraftment rate.

Director Shin Dong-jin said, “As a surgical specialist who has performed numerous stem cell breast augmentations, I am constantly conducting research and making efforts to increase the success rate of the procedure by even 1%,” adding, “It is a situation where sanctions are necessary against some unethical private clinics that perform stem cell breast augmentations in name only.” Reporter Kim Won-jun  kimwj@bosa.co.kr <Copyright © Medical News, unauthorized reproduction and redistribution prohibited>
