[Reporter Shin Na-young] There has been a significant increase in the number of people seeking plastic surgery during vacation, ranging from job seekers to students preparing for the new semester. They are choosing plastic surgery as a way to resolve their appearance complexes.

Following the eye and nose surgeries, which are considered representative procedures, a diverse range of treatments is gaining attention, extending to facial contouring and stem cell surgery. To achieve a beautiful appearance, the scope of women's hopes and desires is expanding beyond distinct facial features to include small, youthful-looking faces and voluptuous figures.

As domestic plastic surgery technology advances, the demand for cosmetic procedures from foreigners, including international students and medical tourists, is steadily increasing. Accordingly, an advanced medical environment and active technological development are expected to play a role in enhancing the competitiveness of the domestic plastic surgery market and patient satisfaction.

Growth in 'Stem Cell Anti-Aging Surgery' Minimizing Swelling and Recovery Time

Recently, 'stem cell anti-aging surgery,' which allows for discharge and return to daily life within a day, has been gaining popularity. Compared to conventional surgery, stem cell anti-aging surgery has the advantage of causing almost no swelling or bruising, allowing for immediate outings, and enabling full recovery within 3 to 4 days.

Stem cell cosmetic surgery, which involves extracting stem cells from body fat and injecting them into desired areas, can improve a youthful appearance through minimal incisions and precise surgical methods.

For such surgeries, state-of-the-art research facilities and a medical environment capable of minimizing side effects are crucial. Since bacterial infection during the procedure can prolong the recovery period or lead to unexpected outcomes, it is advisable to undergo surgery at a hospital equipped with specialized medical equipment.

A youthful appearance is a woman's competitive edge

A woman's face can be described as having moderate width and volume, a forehead with soft curves, a round, oval face, large, round eyes with large pupils, and a short, slightly upturned, blunt nose.

In women, female hormones decline after the age of 29, but for those who maintain a youthful appearance past the age of 30, a certain amount of weight gain supports this look. The fat gradually disappearing from the face can be maintained with a weight gain of about 1 kg. Conversely, this also means that dieting during a period of declining hormones can accelerate the aging process.

As a result, many women are utilizing stem cell fat grafting. Stem cell fat grafting uses unwanted fat to achieve wrinkle improvement effects. It can correct a somewhat harsh first impression into a youthful and soft image, enable a quick return to daily life, and enhance skin elasticity.

Facial contour improvement is possible with stem cell surgery

Stem cell facial reshaping is a surgical procedure that involves extracting stem cells from fat and injecting them into desired areas. It is performed to soften forehead and temple wrinkles for a gentler impression or to alleviate them, or to increase volume in the eyelids and under the eyes. It can also be used to raise the bridge of the nose, add volume to sunken cheeks and nasolabial folds, or create fuller lips.

In particular, SCS stem cell fat grafting using adult stem cells can increase the engraftment rate from an average of less than 30% for general fat grafting and only 50% for general stem cell fat grafting to 70% (based on a paper dated September 2012.9.26, 1). The procedure, which previously required at least 2 to 4 repeated treatments, can be completed in just one session, and there is almost no possibility of calcification due to the engraftment rate.

In conventional stem cell fat grafting, it is common practice to inject more fat than desired during the initial procedure to account for post-procedure survival rates. Consequently, patients tend to experience swelling, a slow recovery period, and low satisfaction with the design immediately after the procedure. However, SCS stem cell fat grafting boasts a high survival rate, allowing for the appropriate injection to achieve the desired design. It also produces a natural-looking result immediately after the procedure, leading to higher satisfaction. Furthermore, it results in minimal swelling and a faster recovery.

Stem cell cosmetic surgery must be performed at a hospital with verified safety.

In the case of stem cell cosmetic procedures, one must thoroughly review the differences between adipose stem cell surgery and stem cell-like procedures, which are derived from blood and bone marrow, before deciding on the desired procedure. In particular, 'stem cell breast augmentation' and 'stem cell anti-aging surgery,' which utilize adult stem cells, require the use of adipose stem cells. In fact, it has been medically verified that the largest amount of adult stem cells are extracted from fat, and that there is a significant difference in the extraction volume.

Dr. Shin Dong-jin, President of the Korean Society for Stem Cell Research and Director of SC301, has conducted various clinical trials and performed over 3,000 surgeries since stem cell cosmetic surgery was introduced in Korea in 2007. He also announced in a paper that in the case of stem cell breast augmentation, administering between 70 million and over 100 million adult stem cells increased the fat engraftment rate to a minimum average of 70% in just a single procedure.

Director Shin stated, “As with all surgical procedures, it is impossible to be 100% free of side effects, but you must strictly follow the precautions provided by the hospital to prevent damage such as secondary infection after surgery,” adding, “To ensure a safer surgery, it is advisable to receive treatment at a hospital where verified experts perform the procedure.”
