Moms are women too, stem cell anti-aging surgery

[Reporter Im Hye-jin] As the weather gets colder, women's concerns about dry, rough skin have increased.

This is because the skin has rapidly lost moisture and wrinkles have noticeably increased due to the cooler and drier season. However, since firm, youthful skin is the dream of women regardless of age, one would not simply want to stand by and watch their skin age.

Perhaps that is why, unlike in the past when only those in their 20s and 30s invested a significant amount of time and money in their skin, people in their 40s and 50s now also have an exceptional interest in their skin. They spare no expense or time in high-end cosmetics or massages.

However, these methods only bring temporary effects, and it is difficult to achieve permanent results. It is also true that it is difficult to get results commensurate with the investment. Nevertheless, it is not that there are no ways to restore sagging and wrinkled skin to firm and youthful skin.

With the emergence of various cosmetic procedures, the path to a youthful appearance has widened somewhat. In the past, the only lifting method available for achieving a youthful look involved injecting threads into the face to directly pull the skin and cheek fat. However, recently, methods such as lasers, radio frequency, and ultrasound have emerged to create firm skin without placing a burden on it.

In addition, surgical procedures have emerged to add volume to faces that lack volume, often referred to as sunken or aged-looking faces, by injecting one's own fat. Among these, stem cell fat grafting is gaining great popularity due to its relatively high engraftment rate, natural appearance, and minimal side effects.

Dr. Shin Dong-jin, director of SC301 Clinic, stated, “Stem cell transplantation is a method in which stem cells are isolated from a portion of centrifuged fat, mixed with re-centrifuged fat, and transplanted to the necessary areas,” adding, “When undergoing stem cell anti-aging surgery, one can see not only the ability to maintain facial volume but also therapeutic effects for fine wrinkles and melasma.”

In the case of stem cell anti-aging surgery, the fat required for transplantation is extracted from the patient's own thighs or abdomen, which also helps with body shape management. Additionally, since implants are not used, it is characterized by minimizing the feeling of unnaturalness.

In the case of conventional autologous fat grafting, there were many instances where the transplanted fat was absorbed by the original fat, resulting in a loss of volume. Additionally, there were side effects such as calcification or necrosis. Furthermore, it is true that many women hesitated to undergo the procedure because it left multiple needle marks on the body.

However, in the case of stem cell anti-aging surgery, high-quality adult stem cells are extracted and transplanted to the necessary areas along with fat, significantly increasing the engraftment rate. Since the fat engraftment rate has been raised from the previous mere 20–30% to up to 70%, it leads to high satisfaction with a single procedure.

Director Shin advised, “In the case of stem cell anti-aging surgery, the process of carefully harvesting fat cells without damaging them, the method of separating only pure fat, and the appropriate mixing ratio and arrangement of stem cells and fat are very important,” adding, “As it is a highly advanced surgical procedure, you must receive treatment from a doctor with extensive experience in the procedure.”
Meanwhile, Director Shin Dong-jin is a leading figure who first introduced stem cell-based breast and facial surgery in the field of cosmetic surgery, which had previously relied solely on artificial implants. He has been developing stem cell breast augmentation since 2007 and, as the president of the Korean Society of Stem Cell Plastic Surgery, currently possesses experience in over 2000 stem cell cosmetic surgeries.

He also received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award in the eco-friendly medical sector at the Asia LOHAS Food & Environment Awards Expo. He was recognized for his contributions to researching and developing eco-friendly medical technology in the medical field through breast augmentation techniques utilizing adipose-derived adult stem cells. He was also recently invited to and attended a beauty and makeup expo held in Macau, China.
