Dr. Shin Dong-jin, Director of SC301 Clinic, gifted a new life to a woman who had lost one breast to breast cancer and was suffering from a sense of loss as a woman. The protagonist of the story, Ms. Kim, had been enduring painful days, suffering from back pain due to her asymmetrical breast following cancer surgery. Having struggled to raise her daughter alone without a husband, she had never even dreamed of breast reconstruction surgery.

Upon hearing this story, Director Shin decided to support the surgery. After completing stem cell breast reconstruction surgery, Ms. Kim expressed her joy, saying, “It feels like even my emotional wounds have been healed.”

Director Shin Dong-jin is a breast surgeon. The number of breast cancer patients in Korea increased fourfold over 15 years, rising from 3000 in 1996 to over 16,000 in 2010.

Breast reconstruction is the only option that can offer hope to breast cancer patients. Director Shin Dong-jin explained, “Since implants are foreign substances rather than the patient’s own body, there are limitations in making them similar to real breasts in terms of feel and shape.” He added, “To compensate for this, autologous fat grafting is used, but because the survival rate of engraftment is low with simple fat grafting alone, stem cell breast augmentation is being widely used recently.”

This story was featured on MBC's "Sharing Happiness: Sharing & People" on the 15th of last month. In addition, he regularly visits a living community for the disabled in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province. Unable to overlook the heartbreaking plight of 29 homeless disabled individuals living together, he has been providing support and volunteering for the past four years. He does not shy away from menial tasks, such as fertilizing the vegetable garden, in addition to medical volunteering.

On the 15th, he visited a community for the disabled with his colleagues, personally procured meat and vegetables for 50 people, and organized a 'meat party.' Director Shin said, "The reason I work hard as a doctor is to help many sick people," adding, "I am dreaming of great hope through sharing."
