[Sisa Today] If you want a voluminous figure in the season of light clothing

As the warm weather continues, quite a few women are struggling to achieve their ideal figure before shedding their thick coats. This is due to the prevailing trend of preferring curvy lines over simply a skinny body.

Women who have lost weight through dieting face the same dilemma. Even if they want to show off their slim figure in tight spring knits, they are likely to be embarrassed by their overly thin physique. This is because significant weight loss leads to a loss of breast volume, and even when wearing shapewear, the artificial appearance often makes it worse than not wearing it at all.

The breasts are the part of the body that completes the sense of volume. However, the breasts are not a part of the body that can be arbitrarily increased or decreased in size. The reality is that even consuming specific foods said to enlarge the breasts or focusing on exercises to strengthen chest muscles makes it difficult to increase even a single cup size. Therefore, experts explain that breast augmentation is the solution if one desires substantial breast enlargement.

Breast augmentation methods are broadly divided into implant insertion and autologous fat injection. Breast augmentation with implants offers high satisfaction as it provides a permanent volume increase with a single surgery; however, as skin elasticity declines in old age, the implants inside the breast may become more prominent. Furthermore, no matter how delicately the implants are inserted, durability inevitably decreases over time, and in severe cases, problems such as capsular contracture—where the tissue surrounding the implant hardens—can occur.

For this reason, 'stem cell breast augmentation' is recently gaining popularity as it reveals a natural volume that does not look surgically altered and offers a fast recovery speed. Stem cell breast augmentation allows for visible volume changes on the day of surgery; while it utilizes the same method as autologous fat grafting using the patient's own excess fat tissue, it differs in the detailed procedures.

Unlike general autologous fat grafting, which simply injects fat cells, adipose-derived adult stem cells extracted from extracted fat and cleanly purified healthy fat cells are mixed and transplanted into the entire thickness of the chest through a small hole of about 2 mm made in the middle of the chest and armpit.

Dr. Shin Dong-jin, director of SC301 Clinic, said, “Stem cells induce collagen production in the dermis layer of the skin and cause antioxidant effects to help transplanted fat engraft well,” adding, “We have raised the engraftment rate of conventional autologous fat grafting, which had remained in the 10–20% range, to 76%, and this has been proven through papers published in Korea.”

Of course, simply transplanting stem cells does not guarantee a successful surgical outcome. It is crucial to extract the stem cells as much as possible without damaging them, using equipment that minimizes high heat and vibration.

The number of pure stem cells isolated from an equal amount of fat is also a key factor determining the success of stem cell breast augmentation. As this affects the engraftment rate and the amount of cells grafted, the use of specialized equipment such as 'TGI' during surgery is essential. It is also important to verify the amount of injected stem cells using a cell counter after surgery.

With the recent rise in popularity of stem cell cosmetic procedures, there are surprisingly many clinics that advertise themselves as offering "stem cell cosmetic surgery" while actually performing simple autologous fat grafting or PRP treatments. Therefore, it is advisable to verify whether the medical institution specializes in stem cell procedures and to decide on the treatment after sufficient consultation with the medical staff to select the method that suits you best.
