If they don't tell you the number of stem cells used, suspect it's a 'fake'.

What Shin Dong-jin, Director of SC301 Hospital, said
Precautions for Stem Cell Breast Augmentation

Full breasts are the key to enhancing an S-line figure and highlighting leg lines. For this reason, breast augmentation is a procedure that many women attempt, following facial surgery. While breast augmentation using artificial implants is still widely performed, stem cell fat grafting—or 'stem cell breast augmentation'—is being conducted to address its shortcomings.

Plastic surgery experts say that stem cell breast augmentation is suitable for women who want to increase their bust size and reduce belly fat. This is because the method involves collecting fat cells primarily from the patient's abdomen, thighs, and arms, extracting stem cells from them, mixing them with the fat tissue in an appropriate ratio, and injecting them into the breasts.

Experts say that while the survival rate of fat cells after transplantation in conventional simple autologous fat grafting is only in the 20–30% range, stem cell breast augmentation can raise it to 70–76%, which is two to three times higher.

Stem cells are said to aid in the repair of damaged tissues and the rapid recovery of deteriorated biological conditions through their ability to induce differentiation into desired cells such as fat cells, chondrocytes, bone cells, and muscle cells, as well as their angiogenesis-inducing and immunosuppressive responses and resulting anti-inflammatory effects.

Although it may appear relatively simple, there is a great deal of hidden know-how involved. Key tasks for successful engraftment include extraction equipment and related operational techniques that maximize living stem cells, the surgeon's surgical technique to evenly transplant stem cells and pure fat cells across all five layers of breast tissue, and pre-operative care and post-operative check-ups. Before surgery, it is necessary to create breast space for the transplanted fat to settle, and afterward, dietary and exercise regimens are required to help the injected fat maintain viability; this, too, requires specialized expertise.

This procedure is recommended for women preparing for job interviews or marriage, women whose breasts have sagged after childbirth, and women whose breast development is congenitally or acquiredly poor, as it increases breast volume and resolves abdominal obesity. Furthermore, if you are uncomfortable with the "artificial breast" shape of artificial implant surgery or are concerned about the foreign body sensation and side effects such as capsular contracture (where the tissue surrounding the implant hardens into a ball shape) caused by immune rejection due to long-term implant insertion, stem cell breast augmentation is the perfect choice.

However, this procedure requires a few compromises in exchange for creating natural-looking breasts. For instance, unlike implants, it is difficult to instantly create full breasts by transplanting a large amount of fat regardless of the breast's internal space.

Director Shin Dong-jin of SC301 Hospital urged caution, stating, “As some hospitals inject excessive amounts of fat cells to enhance the surgical effect without using stem cells, side effects such as fat necrosis or calcification are frequently occurring.”

Due to the nature of fat cells, it is difficult to reshape the breasts as effectively as with implants. Furthermore, the weight gain resulting from consuming high-quality fat to aid engraftment after surgery can be a burden. There is also the financial strain of increased procedure costs, as liposuction must be performed on the entire thighs and abdomen. Dr. Shin Dong-jin is known as a pioneer in the field of cosmetic procedures utilizing stem cells. Having dedicated himself entirely to stem cell breast augmentation since 2008, he found that for 200 female patients who underwent breast augmentation using adipose-derived stem cells between December 2008 and November 2012, chest circumference increased by 5.25 cm two weeks after the procedure and by 5.71 cm one month later. These findings were verified through a research paper published by Shandong University School of Medicine in China.

One must also be cautious of the many "fake" clinics involved in the procedure. Director Shin advised, "Since stem cell extraction equipment alone costs hundreds of millions of won and it takes years to master the know-how, nine out of ten clinics exaggerate that they use stem cells without actually extracting any. You should be suspicious of any clinic that does not provide specific stem cell counts or counter data after surgery."
