Say goodbye to flat lines, stem cell breast augmentation

[Reporter Im Hye-jin] South Korea is currently going wild for Line.

The origin of the term "line" is the S-line, which is synonymous with the ideal body shape. Currently, it refers to the curves of detailed parts such as the calf line, arm line, waist line, and hip line.

This can be seen as a generational shift in which the standard for a beautiful figure has moved beyond simply weight to a focus on highlighting the body's lines.

The same applies to the face. While distinct facial features were once the standard of beauty, it has now shifted to emphasizing the lines of the face. Greater effort is being devoted to highlighting facial contours, such as a convex forehead, a well-defined nose, and a jawline.

In fact, when it comes to the face, even if you are not satisfied with your features or lines, you can overcome that complex with simple methods. This is because you can sufficiently change your nose bridge, eye shape, and jawline with various makeup products.

However, changing body lines all at once is difficult. This is likely because one can only barely see results by consistently and simultaneously employing various methods such as long-term dieting, stretching, and yoga. It is especially difficult to achieve results when it comes to volume issues.

Therefore, people's interest and efforts to enhance feminine lines and volume are becoming increasingly intense. Amidst this, there is a method currently gaining great popularity: stem cell fat grafting, or 'stem cell breast augmentation.'

Stem cell breast augmentation is the next step after fat grafting, the most common surgical procedure utilizing tissue engineering. Fat grafting is a method of extracting one's own fat and injecting it into desired areas. While volume issues were previously resolved with implants, interest in this procedure is gradually waning due to various side effects.

Fat grafting had been gaining immense popularity because it utilized the patient's own fat, offering a natural look and freedom from side effects; however, it also faced issues such as short-lived volume and insufficient volume. In response, stem cell fat grafting—specifically stem cell breast augmentation—has emerged as a new solution.

Stem cell breast augmentation begins by extracting fat from areas with excess fat, such as the thighs or buttocks. It then concludes by isolating stem cells from a portion of the centrifuged fat, mixing them with the fat, and transplanting them to the necessary area.

First, since excess fat is extracted, it provides primary assistance in sculpting the body's lines, and then, by injecting that fat into areas lacking volume, it offers secondary help. Additionally, a major advantage is that the injection of stem cells provides significant volume and long-lasting effects.

Dr. Shin Dong-jin, director of SC301 Clinic, said, “Stem cell breast augmentation is more natural than autologous fat grafting because it uses one’s own stem cells,” adding, “It can be likened to a balloon because it inflates while maintaining the original shape of the breast.”

In addition, Director Shin stated, “With simple autologous fat grafting, the engraftment rate is only 20 to 30 percent, so there were often cases where the volume disappeared shortly after the procedure,” adding, “In the case of stem cell breast augmentation, the engraftment rate goes up to 70 percent, so sufficient satisfaction can be obtained with just one procedure.”

Meanwhile, Director Shin Dong-jin is a leading figure who introduced stem cell-based breast and facial surgery to the field of cosmetic surgery, which had previously relied solely on artificial implants. He has been developing stem cell breast augmentation since 2007 and currently serves as the president of the Korean Society of Stem Cell Plastic Surgery.

Director Shin currently has experience with over 2000 stem cell cosmetic surgeries and recently received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award in the eco-friendly medical sector at the Asia LOHAS Food & Environment Awards Expo.
